Light curtains in elevators are safety devices designed to enhance passenger safety during the operation of the elevator. These curtains use infrared light beams to create an invisible protective barrier across the elevator doors, ensuring that passengers and objects are not at risk of being caught or injured by closing doors. Principle of Operation
Light curtains work based on the principle of infrared light beams. They consist of an array of infrared light emitters and receivers, typically positioned on either side of the elevator doors. When the elevator doors are closing, these beams form an invisible curtain.
Invisible Barrier
The infrared beams create a virtual barrier in the doorway. If any object or person interrupts these beams while the doors are closing, the light curtain detects the obstruction and signals the doors to reopen or stop closing immediately.
Immediate Response
One of the key features of light curtains is their ability to provide an instantaneous response. Upon detection of an obstruction, the elevator doors reverse their motion or stop closing, preventing any potential injury or damage.
Coverage Area
Light curtains cover the entire height of the elevator doors, ensuring comprehensive protection for passengers of different heights, including children and adults.
Integration with Door Control System
Light curtains are integrated into the elevator's door control system. They communicate with the control unit, which manages the door operation and ensures coordinated action between the doors and the light curtain.
